Mrs. Alessandra Morelli

Mrs. Morelli was Senior Officer for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) between 1992 and 2021. During her time at UNHCR she managed emergencies in high-risk and volatile areas through dialogue with governments, NATO, international and local NGOs, and intergovernmental organizations.

She worked in ex-Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Albania, Kosovo, Guatemala, Sri Lanka, Western Sahara, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Georgia, Yemen, Burma, Somalia, and recently has consolidated the first intervention of the refugee emergency in Greece, which involved more of a million people fleeing war and violence.  From October 2017 to May 2021, she was UNHCR Representative in Niger, a complex counter terrorism environment and a volatile migration route to Libya towards the central Mediterranean route.

Mrs. Morelli, upon retiring from her UN career, has returned to Italy where she currently teaches humanitarian diplomacy and migration policies as well as disseminating through public and academic conferences the value of solidarity and conflict resolution.
