Adrián Merino Puente

Originally from Spain, Adrián holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, with a year at King’s College London. During that time he specialised in European Studies, international security and International Law. Now in IMSISS, Adrián is focusing on emerging issues in security, power competition and hybrid threats.
Joel Moffat

Joel holds a BA in History and Philosophy from the University of York. His studies largely focussed on politics, economics, and identity in the transition to a post-colonial world. During the final year of his undergrad he worked as a freelance assistance to several research projects at On Think Tanks, as well as producing a number of articles on global politics for two student-run websites. Joel’s principle interests lie in political developments and economic security across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.
Laia Corxet Solé

Laia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Pompeu Fabra University from Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Madrid and Carlos III University of Madrid. Having previous experience working in the third sector in her native Barcelona and in Bolivia, her interests concentrate on the intersections between gender, class, ideology, and violence, with special attention to non-state actors, asymmetrical conflicts, and extremism.

Lara Maria Guedes Gonçalves Costa

Lara is from Brazil. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Jagiellonian University in Kraków, specialising in International Security. She wrote her BA dissertation on Hybrid War theory and practice. In Kraków, Lara was awarded “Best Foreign Student in Poland” by the Perspektywy Education Foundation. She also worked at the Kosciuszko Institute, supporting the organisation of the CYBERSEC, one of the top 5 cybersecurity policy conferences in Europe. Currently, she is pursuing the IMSISS programme. Her research interests include hybrid warfare, arms control and disarmament, and cybersecurity.
Nyein Nyein Thant Aung

Nyein Nyein Thant Aung is a Young Leader of Pacific Forum’s Young Leaders Program. Her research interests include security sector reform and the juvenile justice system in Asia and the Pacific, with a particular interest in the excessive criminalization of children in conflict-affected areas. She has previously conducted research on social media and armed conflict as a National Youth Peace Consultant to UNFPA Myanmar. She holds a master’s degree in Human Rights from the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies at Mahidol University, from which she graduated in 2021. While joining IMSISS program, Nyein Nyein is working remotely as a Project Support Consultant for IOM Thailand.
Rebecca Rempe

Rebecca holds a BA Honours Specialization in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. She has worked as an intern with the Government of Canada in the health and employment and social development departments. Her interests include game theory, nuclear deterrence, and cyber security.
Kateryna Anisova

Kateryna holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Ukraine, with a semester at the University of Vienna. Her Bachelor’s dissertation focused on European Energy Security in Transatlantic Relations. Kateryna was actively involved in student governance during her undergraduate years, particularly heading the Student Council for a year. In the autumn of 2021, Kateryna completed a European Studies programme at the University of Latvia. In the summer of 2022, she participated in a summer Entrepreneurship and Economic Development programme at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (SUSI programme). Kateryna’s core academic interests are Transatlantic Relations and Eastern Europe.
