Whistlebowing For Change

credits: Maria Silvano / Disruption Network Lab, 2021

The courageous acts of whistleblowing that inspired the world over the past years have changed our perception of surveillance and control in today’s information society. What are the wider effects of whistleblowing as an act of dissent on politics, society, and the arts? How does it contribute to new courses of action, digital tools, and content?

Tatiana Bazzichelli will introduce the book Whistleblowing for Change: Exposing Systems of Power and Injustice (Nov. 2021), which addresses the impact of whistleblowing in society and politics; art as evidence; the drone war, tracking and surveillance; uncovering corruption and illicit money flow; fighting discrimination and exposing abuses; whistleblowers’ persecution and protection. Whistleblowing for Change does not only involve whistleblowers, but also journalists, activists, artists, filmmakers, advocates, and critical thinkers, that reflect on how whistleblowing is contributing to change in society, culture, and politics. Based on the work of Berlin's Disruption Network Lab and the contributions of 30 authors in the field of whistleblowing and social justice, this book examines this growing phenomenon, offering interdisciplinary pathways to empower the public by investigating whistleblowing as a developing political practice.

We will also discuss the upcoming conference organised by the Disruption Network Lab and leave space at the end for a Q&A, so bring all of the questions you may have!
